Announcements:
GOVERNORS

The Governors at Winsor Primary School have an important role in ensuring that the school provides a positive educational environment for all of the young people in our community and the best possible start in life.

Parent Governors are elected and have a specific role in representing the views of the parents and advising the Governing Body in its understanding of community issues. Parent Governors are of vital importance. All parents are urged to take an interest in the elections when vacancies arise.
Currently, we have no vacancies for Parent Governors and this helps to demonstrate the interest parents have in the school.

Community Governors provide expertise and experience across a range of skills so as to ensure that the Governing Body is able to undertake its duty to support the creation of a strong learning environment.

The Governors strive to support and challenge the Leadership Management Team and staff to build upon the improvements that we are making as a school. The Governors monitor student progress with a high expectation that all students can achieve the best that they are able to. Governors also play a key role in ensuring that the pupil premium funding, which is extra funding to support disadvantaged young people, continues to make an impact in improved educational outcomes for our children.

The Governors also focus on the wider social aspects of the school. Parents can play an important role in supporting the Governors and staff by making sure that homework is completed and that pupils attend school regularly and that they are punctual. It is also very important that parents work with the school to further improve attendance by not taking holidays in term time. The Governing Body monitors levels of attendance and punctuality closely.

The Governors would welcome any comments or enquiries from parents and members of the community. We can be contacted through the Main School Office.

Md Rashed Ahmed is a Parent Governor whose term of office commenced in October 2016. Outside of being a Governor, he is a father of two children as well as a Certified Accountant who runs his own accountancy practice. Alongside this, he presents on local TV and radio about accountancy and taxation and enjoys keeping up-to-date with current affairs. He became a Parent Governor as he is interested in knowing how a school is run to accompany his interest in children’s education. Most importantly, he would like to make a positive difference. Mr Ahmed likes the way in which Winsor is a well-established school in the heart of the community with excellent resources and partnerships with business and prestigious institutions in London.

Councillor David Christie is a Co-opted Governor and he is one of the councillors for the local Beckton Ward and he is part of Newham Council’s Executive as a Cabinet Member for Strategic Policy. Alongside this, he also works for Transport for London where he is involved in planning the city of London. He has been a member of the Governing Body since October 2013 .He enjoys travelling as well as spending free time with his wife and young son. David grew up in Beckton and he became a Winsor Governor as he knows how important education is to our young people. As a result, he wanted to be involved and help to support the school. David describes Winsor’s children as never ceasing to amaze him in what they achieve and every time he visits the school, he recognises that all the staff are so positive about making the school even better for the whole community.

Alex Apeagyei is a Parent Governor whose term of office commenced in February 2014. Alongside being a Governor, Alex is a Senior Lecturer in Highways and Transportation Engineering at the University of East London. He became a governor in order to ensure that all pupils get the support they need in order to achieve their highest potential. He acknowledges the dedicated staff team at Winsor Primary School and likes the safe environment for all pupils.

Stuart Cameron is a Co-opted Governor whose term of office commenced in July 2015. Following a successful career working within Education and the Local Authority Children’s Services for about 35 years, Stuart is now retired with a keen interest in Art. Following his retirement, he remained committed to education and wanted to have some involvement in helping the young people of Newham. Stuart recognises the hard working staff at Winsor alongside the great pupils who are eager to learn. He appreciates the supportive parents and enjoys being a member of the school community.

Julie Evans is Co-opted Governor who joined the Governing Body initially as an Associate Member in April 2017 before being elected to her current position. Outside of being a Governor, Julie is a parent, an actress, a member of a choir and the treasurer of a community market alongside seeking employment. Julie initially became involved in the life of Winsor where she volunteered as a reading mentor as well as supporting pupils attending educational visits. By joining the Governing Body, Julie felt that she could make an ongoing effective contributing long after her own child had left using the skills she had developed. Julie particularly likes the morale amongst the staff team and the manner in which the pupils conduct themselves; demonstrating happiness and contentment during the school day. Julie appreciates the manner in which staff, parents and Governs are respected and listened to.

Chris French is a Co-opted Governor whose term of office commenced in October 2015. Outside of being a Governor, Chris enjoys travelling, learning new languages, and visiting the theatre alongside caring for her toddler granddaughter. Following her successful career as HR Manager for Newham schools, Chris was familiar with Winsor Primary and its pupils for a number of years before she retired. Following the disappointing inspection outcome in 2015, Chris recognised the good work that the school Leadership Team was doing and felt that she could help support the school in achieving the very clear vision that they had for the schools and its pupils. Chris likes meeting pupils and describes Winsor’s pupils of being a knowledgeable and confident group of pupils who are generally ready to help one another whenever they can. The pupils are also not shy in explaining to Governors what they feel would make their school day even more enjoyable.
